About the Holy Mass Crucifix:
The Holy Mass Crucifix is a 'Catechetical Crucifix,' meaning, this Crucifix visuallyl teaches us about the Holy Mass. As a Pontifical Catechist of the Vatican Mr. LeBlanc designed these crucifixes to be instructive about the Holy Mass. The Eucharist at the Heart of the Crucifix, and the Chalice visually teach us that Calvary is present to all of time and place and is substantially accessible to us for 2 reasons:
First: The reality of Calvary is present to all of time and place and a crucifix should represent this reality. It should not merely represent an event that came and went 2,000 years ago. When you see the Holy Mass Crucifix you cannot see the Corpus of Christ without seeing the Eucharist which speaks about the reality of Calvary and the Body and Blood of Christ substantially present and contained within the Sacred Host and the wine that becomes his blood in the Chalice.
You also see representations of wheat and grapes which Jesus spoke about that are placed next to his hands. Jesus said that wheat must die to itself to become bread, and we know that grapes must undergo the press to become wine, so the presence of wheat and grapes on this crucifix are indicative of Christ's passion where he dies for us. They are also indicative of the Christian life where we die to self for the sake of His Body, the Church, as the Apostle Paul speaks about. They are also next to his hands because Jesus took the elements of bread and wine in his Holy and Venerable Hands because bread and wine are necessary for the transubstantiation. We see this when Christ acts in and through the hands of his Priest.
Second: It was not St. Benedict who dies on the Cross. It was Jesus Christ which is why devotions to the Saints is at the bottom or on the back of the Holy Mass Crucifix, the reason being is that Christ in the Holy Mass is the source and summit of all Christian life. Every Holy Mass Crucifix includes the St. Benedict Medal on the back to include all the indulgences imparted to the St. Benedict Medal, as well as any indulgences and promises attached to the various devotionals available with these crucifixes.
About the Purpose and Nature of this Apostolate:
The purpose and nature of this Apostolate is:
The Norms on Indulgences from the Enchiridion of Indulgences issued on June 1968, #19 states: "The faithful, who devoutly use an article of devotion (crucifix or cross ...) that has been blessed by the Sovereign Pontiff ... the faithful, using it devoutly, can also gain a plenary indulgence on the feast of the Holy Apostles, Peter and Paul, provided they also make a profession of faith according to any legitimate formula." Once blessed these crucifixes will receive the Apostolic Blessings of 2 popes, so be certain to avail yourself of the Plenary Indulgence.
The Holy Mass Crucifix is also a historical crucifix. Not only is it the only Crucifix Apostolate in the history of the Church, but it is the only time in the history of the Catholic Church when two men who were Pope ever met. Their historic and unrepeatable papacies are united in their Apostolic Blessing for the Holy Mass Crucifix and the Holy Mass Crucifix Apostolate. But there is more. there are 3 Popes that come together in the Holy Mass Crucifix, 2 of which specifically name the Holy Mass Crucifix. Pope Benedict XIV in 1742 issued all the indulgences of the St. Benedict Medal which is integral to the mold on this crucifix.
